Appleton Dryer Vent Installation Wizard Learns Unique use for Vinyl Dryer Duct

The vinyl vent kits purchased at hardware stores are dangerous to use for venting a clothes dryer; they are actually designed for using with bathroom exhaust fans

Appleton, WI – The Appleton Dryer Vent Installation Wizard learned a unique and innovative way to use vinyl venting kits available at hardware stores. Though these kits are really designed to be used for bathroom exhaust fans, many homeowners will attach them to the back of the dryer which is very dangerous. The heat from the dryer combined with lint accumulation blocking airflow are the two main ingredients in a dryer fire!

Robb Vandenberg, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard works to promote public awareness of the importance of proper dryer vent installation and regularly scheduled dryer vent cleaning service. He also takes advantage of every opportunity to educate his customers. For those who are using a vinyl or flexible foil dryer duct he explains that this type of system is not compliant with current safety standards and must be replaced.

Robb recalls one particular job where he serviced a dryer vent system for the Living Tree Estates, a nursing home facility with two residential style dryers which are vented straight through the roof.

Robb was pleased to see that the materials used were acceptable; however, the transition ducts could use some upgrading to increase air flow. Since the dryer vents were 80 percent blocked by lint accumulation, Robb performed a complete dryer vent cleaning service as he thought about how he could reconnect the transition to promote more efficient air flow.

Remembering his training, Vandenberg recalled an idea presented by another Wizard. This was the perfect application for the Dryer Dock Quick Connect in combination with Semi-rigid pipe. Robb and the customer were happy with the solution which increased airflow while taking up less space behind the dryer.

After cleaning up his mess Robb struck up a friendly conversation with one of the staff members. While he is happy to provide useful tips to his customers, this one turned the tables and showed the Wizard (http://www.AppletonWI.DryerVentCleaningNow.com) a better use for vinyl venting kits.

The customer showed him a unique creation, a pumpkin decoration made out of vinyl venting material. Robb agreed that this was a safe and creative way to use the material. He also commented that it should never be used as a dryer vent.

Robb couldn’t resist taking a picture of the artwork as he jokingly offered to provide all the flexible venting they needed to make more pumpkins. “We replace these vinyl dryer ducts every day, so we have access to plenty of material, but you will have to come up with an idea of how to use the lint that comes with them!”
